HydroCook 25 in operation: hydrogen cooking demonstration
Zest Clean Power’s HydroCook 25 green hydrogen cooking system was put through a full working demonstration, covering the complete burner range under continuous kitchen use.
Chapatis were cooked on the 2 kW and mid range burners while larger units handled bulk vessels at canteen scale, all drawing from a single supply. Hydrogen was produced on site by a 25 kW alkaline electrolyser plant, indigenously developed and manufactured, capable of full solar operation and sized for around 200 meals a day.
The burners are Zest’s own patented designs, spanning domestic kitchen sizes up to industrial scale of about 30 kW. Users reported cooking times comparable to LPG, with no change to normal cooking practice. Combustion produces water vapour and no carbon.
BPCL Chairman and Managing Director visits HydroCook facility
Shri Sanjay Khanna, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, visited the HydroCook facility on the IIT Bombay campus, accompanied by Shri Swapnil Mhatre, Senior Manager (Refineries), Chairman’s Office. Shri Khanna was at the institute as chief guest for the convocation of the Department of Energy Science and Engineering.
The visit covered the complete system, from the alkaline electrolyser through to the patented burner range, including a demonstration at the domestic stove. Discussion covered burner safety and flame behaviour, indoor air quality in the kitchen, the range of system sizes that can be built, and the effect of scale and mass production on cost per meal relative to LPG.
